The first photo above shows the 3 Piece Placesetting of WWII Imperial Japanese Navy Bowl for Rice and Soup Bowls used aboard ship in the Wardroom Officers Mess of WWII Imperial Japanese Navy.
This authentic WWII Japanese Naval Porcelain dinnerware has the official Imperial Japanese Navy insiginia consisting of an anchor with a cherry blossom.
These and other plates, bowls, and cups used by both officers and enlisted crewmembers can be purchases here at The Pirate's Lair!
Above photo to the right is a reprint from a Japanese Reference and History Book which Illustrates Japanese Navy and Army Dinnerware and Messware used During WWII. While written entirely in Kanji it is still an excellent reference book with lots of period photographs depicting the Officer and Enlisted Messes, Galleys, Wardrooms, Equipment and Dinnerware.
This Japanese Reference book and guide is a MUST for any WWII Japanese Navy Historian interested in how Japanese sailors and marines prepared and ate their meals aboard ship and shore. This important book is completely written in Japanese Kanji with 253 pages and OVER 220 photos and is pretty much self explanatory and photographically documents exactly how and what cooking utensils and dinnerware were used.
Only 3 copies of this rare Reference book are available which can be purchased here at The Pirate's Lair!
Above photograph is a period WWII Imperial Japanese Navy Barracks Mess Hall Showing Enlisted Corpsmen at Mess - Note the Soup Bowl and the Rice or Vegetable Bowl as the Two Main Mess Items Used! It is unclear whether the messware is porcelain or enamelware - however due to the gray shading on the sides of the cups and bowls, no indication of any fouled anchor/cherry blossom insignia, and that this is clearly an enlisted mess it is most likely enamelware being used. Also shown is what appears to perhaps be a porcelain cup, and note that some are using chop sticks while others are using traditional western forks and spoons.
Photo above illustrates a large 10.5" Japanese Navy Plate and its Topmark used by Senior Admiralty of the Imperial Japanese Navy.
The perfect gift idea for that special Japanese Sailor, Officer or Militaria Collector in your life, be it a Japanese Navy Retirement Gift, a "Moving On Gift", or certainly as a Promotion Gift.
WWII Imperial Japanese Navy China would also be a fantastic personal and unique "Official Government Gift" for a Japanese Naval Attache', Japanese Diplomat, Japanese Ambassador, Charge' De Affairs, or any serious collector of WWII Japanese Navy Militaria!
The Pirate's Lair has an extensive inventory of available Japanese dinnerware which can be purchased online via our shopping cart.
