Significant 3 day Union naval and Confederate shore engagement took place right on this property and surrounding area May, 1861. We continually find relics from the various battles, railroad supply, and encampments that were situated right in our front yard! There are the remants of the Confederate Battery about 100' behind our property, and supposedly the Forward Observation Post for this Battery is located on our property now known as "The Pirate's Peak". Even Pocohantas of "John Smith" fame and her tribe had their summer camp literally right behind us. Fig Trees, Paw Paw Patches and Berries Galore! |
