Swedish Naval Cutlass Model M1849 with Stamped Royal Crown Cipher

Swedish Naval or Marine Cutlass Model M1849

Swedish Naval or Marine Cutlass Model M1849 Swedish Naval or Marine Cutlass Model M1849

Above photograph illustrates and being offered is a RARE Swedish Naval Cutlass Model 1849 of British manufacture which was sent to the King Bernadotte of Sweden and Norway for use specifically by the Swedish Navy against the Russians.

In all actuality the above "Swedish Cutlass" M1849 is an absolute perfect example of a British Royal Navy 1804P Sea Service Cutlass! The only difference between this cutlass made for Swedish naval forces and the standard Royal Navy 1804P Pattern are the lack of British Government Arsenal Stamps and Georgian Crown (and instead have the Swedish Royal Crown).

Swedish Naval Cutlass M1849 Price: $995. Call 540 659 6209

Above are photographs show the blackened hilt of the Swedish Naval Cutlass Model M1851. Like all of the other Swedish Naval models the hilt was completely covered in a thick black japanning to protect both the wooden grip and steel hilt.

Swedish Naval Cutlass (Svenska Blankvapen Faskinkniv) Model M1848

Swedish Naval Cutlass or Bolo Model M1848

Swedish Naval Cutlass or Bolo Model M1848 Swedish Naval Cutlass or Bolo Model M1848

Above photograph illustrates and being offered is a RARE Swedish Naval Cutlass or Bolo Model M1848 with an Anchor stamped onto the ricasso signifying naval provenance. This particular cutlass or bolo was also used by the Swedish Infantry and the difference between the two were the markings found on the ricasso.

Again note the massive blade weighted heavily to the front part of the blade where the full force and impact that any swing or thrust would register. Like the M1810 above this was primarily a hacking weapon with little thrust and parry finesse when used as intended.

Swedish Infantry, Marine, National Guard Cutlass Model M1810

Swedish Naval or Marine Cutlass Model M1810

Swedish Naval or Marine Cutlass Model M1810

Above photograph illustrates and being offered is a RARE and very unique Swedish Marine/National Guard Cutlass Model M1810 and used in the Gotlands by Swedish Naval Forces against Russian forces in 1810 during the Napoleonic Wars. The model 1810 short sword (edge on inside of blade) was used on land on the island of Gotland but alledgedly handed over by the Army Fleet.

Note the unusual 26" Yataghan style of the massive blade which is part of the original Goth and Viking influence found in many Scandinavian and Swedish edged weapons.

Swedish Naval or Marine Cutlass Model M1810

Note the unique pommel on the M1810 ending in a concave or Y shape whose purpose was to steady a rifle or musket when shooting from the kneeling position. The marine or infrantryman would stick the cutlass into the ground hilt up and then place the rifle onto the concave end of the pommel thereby steadying his aim and increasing his marksmanship considerably.

Note above left the expected Swedish arsenal markings found on the ricasso of the blade.

This is an elegant and unique edged weapon with a massive blade, which would fit perfectly as an important part of an overall collection of 19th century Napoleonic War era cutlasses and swords, or as a singular piece as part of ones Scandinavian or Swedish family heritage.

Scandinavian, Possibly Danish but Most Likely 18th Century Swedish Naval Boarding Ax Model 1780

Swedish Boarding Ax

Swedish Boarding Ax or danish boarding ax

Above photograph illustrates a RARE late 18th Century Swedish Boarding Ax (possibly also of Danish origin, but certainly of Scandinavian Naval provenance).

Note the unusual style of the massive ax blade and spike which is throwback of the original Viking influence found in all Scandinavian boarding axes. Of special note is that the French Navy patterned their 18th and 19th Century boarding axes after this particular Swedish or Scandinavian pattern. The m1810, m1851 and m1848 naval cutlass of sweden navy was also sometimes known as a swedish navy sword or naval short sword as the blade was sometimes significantly shorter than some of the 30" plus blades found on infantry and calvary swords.

moreover the sweeping blade of the cutlass was called in french m1848 which distiguishes it from the straigher sword blades.
